CUT TO: MONTAGE
Alright!! Who am I?
My name is Aaron Henriques!
I teach film at SAE University College Dubai, colour grade for a living, and I'm probably too curious for my own good. I love research, and I love sharing what I learn with my students.
Here's the thing, though. Most of the time my students only see the finished version: the final grade, the clean cut, the showreel. They almost never see what came before it, like the wrong call on set, the grade I had to tear down and start again, or the hour I spent staring at a node tree wondering what I'd broken. And honestly, that's where most of my learning happened.
So this blog is where I show that part. Workflows I'm testing, gear I'm figuring out, colour problems that have stumped me, and the classroom lessons that took me way too long to learn myself. The wins go in, but so do the mistakes, the wrong turns and the fixes that came after.
It's not just for my students, either. If you're curious about the craft in any form, or you've ever felt like everyone else has it figured out except you, this is for you too.
